Harlie story is a heart breaking one, and she has already been with us a year. Harlie came to us as a beautiful 16 month old girl. She had a history of snapping at her owners for no reason, mainly when she was stroked on the head.
After several weeks in our care, Harlie was diagnosed with Masticatory Muscle Myositis, a condition that causes serious muscle wastage around the head. It is a serious condition, as the loss of use of the muscles leads to the jaw locking and the dog being unable to eat.
Harlie’s problems didn’t stop there. As her muscles wasted away, her eye lids began to turn in over, and started rubbing against her eyeballs. As a result she was rushed into the vets for an emergency entropion operation. However, again due to the lack of muscle in her head, the operation was a lot more complicated than a normal entropion.
Harlie is now enjoying her life, but is on long term medication. She has suffered several relapses, and we really don’t feel it is fair for her to be put in danger in a home environment. She has now been moved to the farm with Scooby, where she can just relax and watch the world go by. She has been through enough in her young life already.
